MiniRoos (U5 to U8) at Boroondara Eagles FC

ABOUT OUR (U5 to U8) MINIROOS PROGRAM

What is MiniRoos?

MiniRoos is a smaller version of soccer that provides boys and girls aged 4-11 with a fun introduction to the world game. MiniRoos is designed for kids: it is all about having fun, learning new skills and making life-long friends.  For more information about MiniRoos across Australia, including the rules applied to each age group, please visit the MiniRoos Website.

MiniRoos at the Boroondara Eagles FC

Previously known as “Small-sided Football”, we have been running a MiniRoos programme at our club since 2009. Our MiniRoos programme is divided into two segments, U5-U8 and U9-U11.

MiniRoos U5 – U8

In 2017 the general MiniRoos season will consists of 18 sessions, starts April 22nd and concludes September 9th. Our home ground is Macleay Park which is where the U5 – U7 will undertake their skills development training.

Children spend around half to two thirds of the session learning skills through fun ball games and drills and the remainder being a not-too-serious soccer game of 4-5 players per side.  (Depending on their behaviour, the parents might get asked to join in for the last 10 minutes of the game!)

We will also have optional skills training for U7 & U8 Boys and Girls. This will suit children wanting an extension beyond the Saturday morning sessions.  At no additional charge, this program runs from Monday 24 April for 10 weeks until Monday 26 June. The session will be run at Macleay Park Pitch 1.

We anticipate involvement with other nearby clubs in a series of ‘Gala Days’ where the children in our U5-U7 squads play each other over three rounds.  They are a great morning out, and loads of fun for all.

All U8 boys will have the opportunity to play optional competition matches against other clubs in an organised league, however this is optional and only if you think your boys are ready and/or keen. The competitions / leagues that we participate in may be on Saturdays OR Sundays which is still to be determined, and will start around 5-6 weeks into the season after several rounds of Saturday morning training.

The U8 Boys will be graded over the opening weeks of the season with teams being subsequently selected and placed at an appropriate competition level. There will be an additional charge on top of the registration fee for boys wishing to participate in the Saturday/Sunday competition; this will be confirmed at the time the teams are created.

We expect to also have for our keen U7 boys a ‘development squad’ playing in a Saturday/Sunday competition. We plan to have a ‘mid-season’ entry into a suitable competition. There will be an additional charge on top of the registration fee for boys wishing to participate in the Sunday competition; this will be confirmed at the time the teams are created.

There is NO pre-season training for our U5-U8 Boys & Girls.
